Things I’ve Recently Learned About Blogging

It’s been a nice break from blogging the past couple weeks, and it’s given me time to reflect on things.  Here are some things I’ve learned about blogging:

Blogging is semi-addictive.  It seems when you initially stop blogging, there is that itch to blog for the next few days.  After a week or so, it seems to pass.  But there is that initial pull back towards regular blogging.

Blogging may not be healthy.  I say “may” here because I don’t think it’s a black-and-white issue.  I’m sure blogging can be a great outlet for many people.  But I think there are some potential negative consequences as well.  I think blogging can lead to more self-focus than is healthy.  Also, you have the fact that people naturally craft and censor things to make their online persona look better.  So now a person has to maintain this online version of themselves.

Blog comments are a net negative.  It was great to turn off comments and not have to check them these last couple weeks.  It’s an easy conclusion for me now that comments are not worth the effort.  Sure, I can receive great comments on this blog, but wading through the spam and nonsense is not worth it.
